In addition to the two Halmstad teams, 18 other teams played in Damer Junior 96-98. They were divided into 2 different groups, whereof Halmstad Handboll 2 could be found in Group 1 together with Kristianstad HK 2, Uppsala HK, Näsby Handboll, H43 Lund 1, H 65 Höör 1, LVHK Lödde, IFK Tumba Sthlm, Ronneby HK and Dalhems IF Malmö.

Halmstad Handboll 2 continued to A-Slutspel after reaching 5:th place in Group 1. In the playoff they made it to 1/4 Final, but lost it against H43 Lund 1 with 10-15. In the Final, H 65 Höör 1 won over H43 Lund 1 and became the winner of A-Slutspel in Damer Junior 96-98.
