In addition to the two Åhus teams, 42 other teams played in Pojkar 2006 D1. They were divided into 4 different groups, whereof Åhus Handboll 2 could be found in Group 3 together with Eslövs HF 1, IFK Kristianstad 1, Ystads IF HF 2, HK Hök Laholm, Växjö HF, LVHK Lödde 2, Alingsås HK 1, Trelleborg HBK 1, IFK Tumba Sthlm and H43 Lund 2.

Åhus Handboll 2 made it to A-Slutspel after reaching 4:th place in Group 3. Once in the playoff they made it all the way to the Final, but lost it against H43 Lund 1 with 7-10. Thereby Åhus Handboll 2 finished second in P06 A-Slutspel during Åhus Beachhandboll Festival 2016.
