In addition to the two Uppsala teams, 22 other teams played in Herrar Junior 96-98. They were divided into 2 different groups, whereof Uppsala HK 1 could be found in Group 1 together with Åhus Handboll 1, Halmstad Handboll, IFK Kristianstad 2, IFK Tumba Sthlm, Kävlinge HK, H 65 Höör 2, HK Ankaret, Huddinge HK Sthlm, Ystads IF HF, Karlskrona Handboll and HK Hök Laholm.

Uppsala HK 1 continued to A-Slutspel after reaching 4:th place in Group 1. In the playoff they made it to 1/4 Final, but lost it against IFK Kristianstad 1 with 6-10. In the Final, IFK Kristianstad 1 won over Halmstad Handboll and became the winner of A-Slutspel in Herrar Junior 96-98.
