In addition to the two IFK Kristianstad teams, 22 other teams played in Herrar Junior 96-98. They were divided into 2 different groups, whereof IFK Kristianstad 1 could be found in Group 2 together with H 65 Höör 1, Trelleborg HBK, Åhus Handboll 3, Uppsala HK 2, IK Lågan Hörby, Rimbo HK Roslagen, Skara HK, Åhus Handboll 2, GF Kroppskultur Uddevalla, Borlänge HK 1 and Näsby Handboll.

IFK Kristianstad 1 made it to A-Slutspel after reaching 1:st place in Group 2. Once in the playoff they won every match inluding the Final against Halmstad Handboll, which they won with 12-9. Thereby IFK Kristianstad 1 won the entire A-Slutspel in Herrar Junior 96-98 during Åhus Beachhandboll Festival 2016.
