In addition to the two IFK Kristianstad teams, 22 other teams played in Herrar Junior 96-98. They were divided into 2 different groups, whereof IFK Kristianstad 2 could be found in Group 1 together with Åhus Handboll 1, Halmstad Handboll, IFK Tumba Sthlm, Kävlinge HK, H 65 Höör 2, Uppsala HK 1, HK Ankaret, Huddinge HK Sthlm, Ystads IF HF, Karlskrona Handboll and HK Hök Laholm.

IFK Kristianstad 2 continued to A-Slutspel after reaching 6:th place in Group 1. In the playoff they made it to 1/8 Final, but lost it against H 65 Höör 1 with 11-12. In the Final, IFK Kristianstad 1 won over Halmstad Handboll and became the winner of A-Slutspel in Herrar Junior 96-98.
