In addition to the two Uppsala teams, 22 other teams played in Herrar Junior 96-98. They were divided into 2 different groups, whereof Uppsala HK 2 could be found in Group 2 together with H 65 Höör 1, Trelleborg HBK, Åhus Handboll 3, IFK Kristianstad 1, IK Lågan Hörby, Rimbo HK Roslagen, Skara HK, Åhus Handboll 2, GF Kroppskultur Uddevalla, Borlänge HK 1 and Näsby Handboll.

Uppsala HK 2 continued to A-Slutspel after reaching 2:nd place in Group 2. In the playoff they made it to 1/4 Final, but lost it against Halmstad Handboll with 8-9. In the Final, IFK Kristianstad 1 won over Halmstad Handboll and became the winner of A-Slutspel in Herrar Junior 96-98.
